Review of Fantastic Planet (1973) by Nate B — 16 Nov 2009
One of the best animated films I?ve ever seen: simply put this film puts life into perspective with an exceptional touch.
For a film that dates more than 30 years old; this visually stunning film still holds up amazingly well, it?s damn near perfect in my book. Fantastic Planet tells the story of a race of human-like people called Oms, who are dominated by giant beings called Draags, who are by comparison ten times bigger than the Oms. The story is pretty straight forward actually, which in a film like this, is good, as it allows the mind plenty of time to soak up the surreal visuals. The whole film is completely engrossing, preferring to stay in the realm of grotesquely odd, rather than throw complicated themes at you. This little gem is highly recommended for anyone who remotely likes animation and a must-see for anyone interested in a brilliant other worldly film. One of the many films that you push aside and tell yourself you?ll eventually see; this one needs to come to the forefront of your ?need to see list.?
