Review of Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) by Adam K — 04 Apr 2012
I have not giggled this much since Wallace & Gromit. Wes Anderson's stop-motion animation is beautifully done in this eclectic collection of familiar voices and Dahl delivery. It's smart and smooth with timing that only a child can truly appreciate. Fortunately, I still carry my childhood point of view around with me (as do most adults if they stay in touch with their inner child). That makes for a good giggle-fest. George Clooney is borderline creepy (that's a compliment) as Mr. Fox, but stranger still... there's a sexiness about him that I'm sure comes from this actor's ability to lull whole audiences into wanting and needing him - LOL There are good lessons for all ages from philosophies in existentialism to the simplistic message that there are repercussions for our actions... that every action in the universe has a reaction. If you liked James and the Giant Peach (1996) and Coraline (2009) this film will entertain you.
A bit of trivia: Mr. Fox's implanting of sleeping powder in blueberries actually comes from another of Roald Dahl's books called, Danny the Champion of the World.
