Review of Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) by Michael V — 21 Jul 2012
Wes Anderson's take on inspirational writer Roald Dahl's famous children's book Fantastic Mr. Fox may not be fantastic, however you could go far worse as far as animations are concerned.
Anderson already has our attentions gripped with one glance at the star studded and family style casting.
George Clooney as the smooth talking Mr Fox was almost meant to be - written in the stars if you will. He is the perfect choice for a family animation as his voice is heart warming and gentle; this is why he should have stayed well away of the Batman role in 1997.
Also cast is comedy legend Bill Murray, Meryl Streep, the veteran Williem Dafoe and Owen Wilson. Each deliver amicable performances which can be deemed acceptable by any standard. A solid back up cast.
If you are unfamiliar with the plot of Fantastic Mr. Fox is basically follows the journey of Mr. Fox and his family as they attempt to avoid the merciless capture of three farmers.
There are some nice touches to this film and it has a quirky feel throughout; although as I am familiar with the story it didn't have much else to offer. A decent tale on Dahl's book - a decent animation truth be told - just not a great one.
