Review of Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) by Steven K — 13 Jul 2014
I watched this on a whim and was rewarded with a big grin. It is clever, funny, and a delight from beginning to end. The dialogue was particularly witty. It's hard to imagine anyone from any age group that wouldn't get a kick out of it.
I avoided it when it came out: I seem to have gotten the impression it was going to be some political allegory. Instead, it is like a watching a beautifully done cartoon that is both fun to watch and pulls gently on your heartstrings.
Clooney was great, but Streep reined in her occasional tendency to over act and pulled off the role of Mrs. Fox with understated credibility. The characters, both animal and human, are a riot of well-crafted detail.
I was really glad I caught it; wonderful movie.
