Review of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) by Doctor S — 03 Jul 2012
Pretty poor sequel to an already average superhero flick, with surely the stupidest idea for a "villain" ever - an energy-eating planetoid. No, I am not making that up. I remember talk of a Silver Surfer feature ever since the 1990's, and his long overdue rescue from rewrite hell to appear in this movie hardly seems worth all the trouble.
The Fantastic Four rank high among my favorite comic book characters with seemingly lots of movie possibilities, and these actors seem pretty well-suited to play them, but this script is worthless. At least in the first entry, they each showed some personality.
Ironic that Stan Lee's cameo is as himself being rebuffed from attending Mr. Fantastic & Invisible Girl's wedding, which seems allegorical to the scores of superior plots from his comics rejected for this nonsense instead.
