Review of Fantastic Four (2015) by Brandon L — 17 Jan 2016

In spite of the heap of negative reviews, we decided to risk a buck fifty and rent this film from Redbox. Considering that we enjoy comic book films, we figured it couldn't be that bad. I feel I deserve a refund of at least two dollars after having seen it.

In short, the plot moves slowly when it ought to gloss over things, then tells about the exciting bits by glossing over them in quick recap. Even as they did so, we were all shouting at the screen that the parts they just brushed over might have made an interesting movie. But no.

Instead, they drag out the non-super backstory, hurry the middle, then skip to a decidedly NON-climactic climactic conclusion. The only saving grace here is that the special effects are pretty good.

Beyond that, it's a dull story, boring acting, bleak setting, confused plot, and a general waste of time. I can't find much to say about this movie to recommend it. I guess if you're not too picky on movies?

Family friendly notes: lots of action and angst. A few scary moments. The middle gets a bit "PG-13" with people getting kind of exploded and burned. Not sure why they went so grisly right out of nowhere, but considering how down-tempo and dark the movie was, it was only a matter of time. Language throughout and a rude gesture. Side note: what's up with Hollywood adopting the other "D" word as the new bad word of choice?
