Review of Fantastic Four (2015) by Michael W — 06 Jun 2016
After months of hearing how bad this movie sucked, I finally got to chance to sit down and give it a go. It know it will sound like a broken record at this point, but the first 30-40 minutes of this movie are actually pretty darn good. This movie had a fantastic cast (pun intended), and it's a shame when you see how well some of their early scenes played out. There were even a couple of lines that made me chuckle at the beginning. Oh, and while we're on the subject, I thought Toby Kebbell as Pre-Dr. Doom was great. I even had to IMDB him to figure out who the heck he was. I could imagine him as a GoT character for some reason, don't ask why.
The latter half of the movie feels very rushed, and this is where the problem lies. It could have been, at the least, on the level of those Andrew Garfield Spider-man movies had they just fleshed the character's out a little more. The last 30 minutes are so rushed, it reminded me of the pilot for another CW superhero TV series. I can't help but feel all the rumors about FOX meddling with the production are true, because you really have to stretch to make some of the scenes make sense.
A couple more of my opinions on the movie.
1. The scene with Doom breaking out of the facility was kick ass.
2. Final fight was lame city.
3. I hated The Thing's voice.
4. They needed to give Mara and Teller better lines. Great talent wasted here.
5. The pre-fantastic versions of Ben and Victor made me hate the fantastic versions even more. These guys are fantastic actors and I've never even heard of them.
6. Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm felt the most like his comic book counterpart for me. Wish he had more scenes.
