Review of Fantastic Four (2015) by Fernando L — 17 Nov 2017
I'm sorry to say that I agree with most of the negative reviews for Fantastic Four. The character development was infantile, and both Kate Mara (Invisible Woman), and Miles Teller (Mr. Fantastic) were horrible. They lacked charisma, and their dialogue was as dull and uneventful as the movie, itself. I don't know much about Kate Mara, besides some small roles, but Miles Teller delivered quite a performance in Whiplash. I think I'll credit his portrayal in this movie to direction and writing.
How can you deliver such a poor product (relative to other movies in the same genre) when you have so much time to come up with a good story?
Too much time was spent on [attempting] to develop the characters of Reed Richards and Ben Grimm, and none on Johnny and Susan Storm. Any comic book reader, or movie goer who saw the first adaptation knows the origin. Much like with Superman, it's old. Get to the point. This movie doesn't get to the point until the f'ing conclusion.
That brings me to Dr. Doom. Holy F*(&&$g sh#$%^lls, Batman. What a horrible conception from head to toe. The actor was bad, the writing was bad and his physical representation was bad.
Now, while I go on this ranting review, it's still not as bad as some comic book adaptations: Catwoman, Daredevil (Ben Affleck), Elektra, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin.
I feel bad for the actors, much like I do for Andy Garfield (Amazing Spiderman) This would have been an OK pilot for a series. As it stands now, I don't see a sequel coming out of this, and I refuse to watch another reboot. If it does get a sequel, I'm hoping for a completely new writing staff, an actual good director, and for the studio (20th Century Fox) to stay the hell out of the process. The sequel to Captain America the First Avenger, after all, was spectacular, and one of the best comic movies.
