Review of Fantastic Four (2015) by Matthew D — 14 Feb 2018
Taken as a more serious sci-fi film this reboot has lots of interesting ideas and takes on the characters, which it takes it's time to set-up well. Unfortunately, the rest of the movie pays for the initial slow pace with the second half losing focus; skipping over further development of the characters we had started to become invested in and even going as far as to jump a significant chuck forward in time.
Without this continued development it's hard to keep interest in a finale which feels even more rushed and degenerates into messy CGI action. If the start had been tweaked to allow time to breath later and improve the pacing, a less lop-sided version of this film could have been very good.
As it stands it's not as bad as its reputation and there's lots to like, but it fails to tell a satisfying story.
