Review of Fantastic Four (2005) by Darcy B — 26 Mar 2012
A strangely empty film, devoid of passion or interest. It plays more like a middling romantic comedy than a superhero film, as undeveloped characters go through the motions of various cute plot threads.
The villain (Julian McMahon) is one of the least threatening in recent memory. Shrek's diminuitive Lord Farquaad had a darker soul. The female (and gay) audience are sought with a few shots of Chris Evans shirtless, which earns this film half a star more than I might have given it, while dads and boyfriends will be gratified by Jessica Alba's feminine presence.
