Review of Fantastic Four (2005) by Baurushan J — 09 Nov 2013
I don't know why every Fantastic Four adaptation is hated on but out of all of them, this and its sequel are the best and I wish for more in the franchise. Anyway the story starts of with Reed Richards and Ben Grimm played by Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis who are on a mission to go into space with Reed as the leader but they need two more members so they recruit Sue Storm and her brother Johnny Storm played by Jessica Alba and Chris Evans.
Whilst on the mission, all four of them are exposed to a massive dose of gamma radiation and survive somehow. Back on earth, they all find out that they have strange and unexpected transformations: Reed can stretch his limbs and body and is known as Mr.
Fantastic, Sue can turn invisible, create force fields and is known as Invisible Woman, Johnny can summon and project fire and is renamed Human Torch and Ben is mutated with superhuman strength and rocks for skin, known as The Thing.
Together they are known as Fantastic Four who must stop their arch-nemesis, the evil Doctor Doom played by Julian McMahon. Like I said before, I have no idea why people hate this film and the sequel so much but this was a more accurate aim to the comics than you attracting your opposite gender! Our four main actors practically became the Fantastic Four and when I think of them in real life, I only think of them as the characters they played! Julian McMahon was a more updated version of Doctor Doom from what I can remember but he was still an arrogant insane guy you want to get your hands on.
Then there's the special effects and boy did they stand out amazingly. My favourite is Chris Evans as Human Torch as always who later played Captain America in 2011, in 2012 in The Avengers and in 2014 in its sequel.
But yes, others such as the special effects for Mr.Fantastic and the costume design for both the heroes and villain were remarkably badass! Finally the writing was just plainly simple as an origin story but amazingly complex for a action/science-fiction movie.
Fantastic Four (2005) gets a 10/10.
