Review of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) by Jaime S — 05 Jan 2019
The Crimes of Grindelwald told a dark story, different from the first Fantastic Beasts movie, but still nonetheless very interesting. Even as an avid fan of the series, I found the beginning confusing to follow and it seemed rushed.
As the movie progressed, smaller details started to make more sense, and plotlines were connected. Smaller characters were introduced and given their own storyline which further tied this movie to the original Harry Potter films.
This allowed viewers to relate more to this film and made the wizarding world feel more connected, rather than just another series with a whole new set of characters. Seeing young Dumbledore as the same witty and mysterious character he was in the Harry Potter films further connected the storyline.
The visual effects and attention to detail were very well done for a movie of this magnitude. Given the complicated storyline and small, but important details of this movie, big fans will have an easier time following than the average viewer.
Overall, it told a great story of the ânewâ? evil character and was a perfect set up for what is to come with the films to follow.
