Review of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) by A.c. G — 02 Dec 2018
"The Crimes of Grindelwald" was not the movie I expected given that it had such a rich cast and the backing of a universe most of us adore. The large number of subplots and poor montage made it quite exhausting to follow.
In addition, the characters barely had any time (or room) to show development and the debut of the young Dumbledore seemed to lack that 'spunk' we all needed; perhaps his entrance became as irrelevant as the movie title as soon as I got lost in all the subplots.
However, effects and scenery were wonderful, and the connections to familiar characters (e.g. Nagini, Voldemort's familiar) did help us forgive even the largest of faults this production had. I felt that the strong cast and the devoted Potter fans the were owed a better written and organised film.
Nonetheless, the end did help develop a thirst for what is to come. I hope Hollywood doesn't just take advantage of this thirst and actually wows us next time.
