Review of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) by Joe C — 19 Nov 2018
Convoluted, plot-heavy, Easter-egg extravaganza that fell short of the mark for me because it's been so long since I've been immersed in the Harry Potter world. It had potential, but never committed to any one theme.
The hero of the film, Newt Scamander, hardly did a thing. Eddie Redmayne's performance was uninspired, and he looked confused most of the time. Feels very much like a "middle movie", and the title is misleading.
Grindelwald didn't really do much of anything to inspire fear or make me hate him, outside from some pretty obvious and heavy handed allusions to Nazism.
