Review of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) by Dcgraca — 16 Nov 2018
As a Potterhead, this movie is an incredible addition to the story and overall saga, but the movie itself is a mixed bag and I see why critics don't like it that well. So to Potterheads, this movie is a 9/10, but to the general audience, this movie is a 6/10. I'll explain why below as I mention what I liked and what I disliked from the movie (its ups and downs).
Ups:
+ The Performances (not one single actor in the movie did a bad performance).
+ The Action Sequences (from Grindelwald's escape to the final battle, this movie's action sequences were terrific to watch).
+ The New Beasts.
+ The Soundtrack.
+ The Visual Effects.
+ Going back to Hogwarts.
+ The new characters (Dumbledore was the best and I really liked Leta's character).
+ The Comedy + The Production Design.
Downs:
- Too Many Characters (I feel like this movie was too crowded and unlike Infinity War, which had over 40 characters, this movie didn't manage to juggle them, mostly because more than half of the characters were new ones).
- Too Many Subplots.
- Some references to the Potter Saga felt forced (I liked Hogwarts, the Deathly Hallows mention and even the Mirror of Erised, but why was Nagini there or Flamel or even Fawkes at the end.
