When the film was not holding my attention, which was 33% of the running time, I looked around the theatre instead, at the other popcorn-digestion bots, and pondered the way we'd all been manipulated by advertising into watching this film.

I enjoyed The Crimes of Grindelwald in the sense that I like going to the pictures and eating popcorn, and some of the film was pretty, but the lazy imagining of the young Dumbledore breaks my young heart.

Where is the crooked-nosed, plum velvet sporting, questionable enigma we all love so well? He's been replaced by a button-nosed, tweed-suited placeholder. This disappointing development of a character sums up the way that this extension of the Harry Potter universe is an insult to loyal fans forking out to see it.

And the nifflers are trying way too hard to be cute.
