Review of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) by Tim W — 23 Nov 2018
The Crimes of Grindelwald shows the wizarding world from a new perspective, one that is mature but familiar. Compared to the first Fantastic Beasts, I find myself becoming more invested in the characters especially Newt whose socially anxious personality is refreshing to see in such a massive franchise.
Although there are a few plot missteps, overall the nods to the previous films are subtle and in most cases simply delight. One scene that comes to mind is where Newt and Leta confront the Boggart. This scene would be easy to parallel too closely to Prisoner of Azkaban, but instead it finds a way to reinvent and memorialize.
Overall I thoroughly enjoy the movie and am excited to watch the story unfold. Oh, and the visuals are stunning.
