Review of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) by Mackenzie S — 16 Nov 2018
I'm a hardcore Potter and Fantastic Beasts fan. Loved all the books and films and was there on opening day for every film. I've been very eagerly anticipating this sequel for two long years. The negative reviews pouring in were worrying me a little. True, it's rating here from all the critics is extremely dismal.
I needn't have worried at all, I found The Crimes of Grindelwald to be a very satisfying edition to the wizarding world films. Does it have a few issues here and there? Sure, but I loved returning to this world and seeing where these characters went after thr last film. Most especially, I was eager to find out where Credence's story would go next, and boy, do we get some interesting developments there!
The cast was all excellent, and Dan Fogler provided some good laughs as Jacob.
I didn't feel that the film had to many characters. I mean, character-wise, Game of Thrones this is not. It's not at all difficult to keep the characters straight, nor did I really find it to be jarring to switch from one's goings on to the next. It's not challenging to watch. And the flashback that the critics scream about was quite brief.
The score was excellent, as it always is in these wizarding world films.
There is a big twist at the end that is quite exciting and will leave fans eager to learn more. It's going to be a long two years!
Overall, I really liked this movie! The negative reviews are truly puzzling to me. If you're a Rowling fan and you're eager to find out what happens next to Newt, Tina, Credence, and the others... I see no reason why you wouldn't enjoy this film! I also suggest picking up the screenplay, as it clarifies some things.
