Review of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) by Ryan K — 13 Nov 2018

Although there is a dense amount of plot for the movie to compact into its run time, the characters and story are still handled with the magic and class you expect from JK Rowling and the Wizarding World.

I'm more than a decade removed from my heyday of caring much about the Harry Potter series and related material, but this series has still been a treat. I'm a big fan of getting a glimpse into the Wizarding World that doesn't rely heavily on child-actors as main characters, and that isn't afraid to sacrifice some of the Harry Potter series airy tone for something a bit heavier.

Not having the burden of using terrible CGI for the first 4 movies, is another advantage this film has over the screen adaptations of Harry Potter. Don't let the rampant over-analyzing nerd-rage surrounding this movie release dispel your excitement.

Sometimes, I think there's just a large group of people eager to shout down any enormous pop-culture behemoth after a new release, simply because the internet gives them the power to do that... not because those releases actually earned hours of all-caps animosity digitally screamed onto various online forums.

While those people get tuck themselves into a corner and cry themselves to sleep complaining about this movie and The Last Jedi, the rest of us essentially have an excellent new Harry Potter to enjoy.

I, myself, have seen it twice thus far.
