Review of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) by Bfoore90 — 20 May 2017
Set in JK Rowling's magical world of witchcraft and wizardry, I wasn't expecting much from this movie as I'm not the biggest Harry Potter fan but nonetheless this movie certainly tops my list as one of the best of 2016.
In an attempt to expand the world of Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts introduces us to Newt Scamander, an employee of the Ministry of Magic who travels to 1920's New York en route to Arizona but gets stuck there when chaos ensues and he has to recapture his mystical creatures that accidentally escape from his briefcase.
This film does a good job of handling action, magic and at the same time staying grounded and not doing too much too soon with it's material. There is a really good foundation here to build on with good characters to build off of in this movie, it also carries a sense of magical wonder you come to expect from these movies.
