Review of Fantasia (2004) by Dave L — 20 Jan 2011
An absolutely amazing, awe-inspiring and beautiful film is FANTASIA.
Fantasia sets a series of animated shorts alongside pieces of classical music, showing the interpretations of each of the pieces of Walt Disney, composer Leopold Stokowski and the Disney animators.
There truly is nothing but music in each of these sequences. No dialouge and not even any sound effects - the music guides you through each scene and provides all sounds needed.
Each sequence plays beautifully alongside its respective classical number, perfectly timed and synced by the Disney animators.
I guess it helps if you have a musical knowledge to understand exactly where this film is coming from... which is probably the reason that the film didn't fare so well on it's original release... but there's nothing stopping those without such a knowledge to enjoy it.
There are brilliant animations from the Disney gang in a wide variety of mediums - inks, watercolours, paints, you name it Fantasia has it.
Definatley an over-looked and under-rated Disney classic, that becomes more amazing and gives you more goosebumps with each additional viewing.
