Review of Fantasia (2004) by Jacob A — 23 May 2012
This is Disney's greatest masterpiece.I remember this film since childhood, I believe I was about 4 or 5 years old when I first saw this. I watch it again to find myself still in wonderment. Now, Being a great appreciator for classical music, that appreciation only made the experiance more grand and sensual.I remember being younger when I first saw this. It really pulled me into it's world and I was delighted to be in it. I remember being so tripped out of my mind when I was watching Night on Bald mountain, so much can thrown at me, my little mind couldn't digest it all. But when I saw Beethoven's Symphony literally bring nature to life, when music described the Genesis of Earth, or even watch sprites dance about as the seasons go by, I could not help but remain silent as I let my eyes absorb it all.
I remember reading about the history of this film and how it did not succede commercially. It's highly understandable. This is a completely different creature than your typical movie, it really wanted to try something new but not understood. Fantasia reaches out in a much deeper realm than most of us can muster. This also tells us how powerful music can be. I personally believe Diseny's greatest minds were behind the creation of Fantasia, I mean look at the last pieces they play! Night on Bald Moutain and Ava Maria...both do in fact set each other off but create probably the most powerful and deepest imaginary combined with subliminal meaning behind it. This definately something i'll be watching everytime I have the chance to. Heck, I would be 90 years old and still enjoy this. Highly recommended for both adults and children.
