Review of Fantasia (2004) by Matt M — 15 Feb 2013
Fantasia could perhaps be considered Walt Disney's most artistic venture as well as a landmark in the animation genre. By blending famous pieces of classical music with animation stories in a feature length film, Disney not only proved himself an artist as well as a successful producer, but also one with a belief in the medium as a creative medium rather than a mere cinematic gimmick.
It is arguably with Fantasia that the animation genre was given the credibility that ultimately made them relevant in the cinematic landscape. Some of the segments in this film are particularly memorable, including the famous one which stars Mickey Mouse as the sorcerer's apprentice.
This film is not only a feast for the eyes but also a treat for the ears. Magical.
