Review of Fantasia (2004) by Hank H — 14 Apr 2014
The very idea of pieces of animation bringing classical music to life is amazing even today. If I remember correctly, the only other movie to do this is the wonderful, beautiful, and often overlooked sequel, Fantasia 2000.
It's true that some of the numbers drag, and that some racist scenes were removed in the 60s (insignificant, considering you can find them elsewhere), however, this film stands the test of time. In 1997, the AFI listed this film as one of the greatest 100 films.
It was replaced by Toy Story in 2007. However, that does not mean that Fantasia is any less ground-breaking. Fantasia and Snow White are probably Disney's most valuable films. They are two of the most groundbreaking films ever made.
These films are more important than the puppet who did many immature and silly things and watched his friend get turned into a donkey. Sorry, I've got a thing against Pinocchio, but I recognize its significance.
