Review of Fantasia 2000 (2000) by James S — 13 Nov 2010
So it's animation set to classical music. In the nature of both of these art forms, Fantasia 2000 is a bit hit and miss. Some of it is very good - Rhapsody in blue, The Sorcerers Apprentice, while some of it is just kind of dull - the flying whales?? What the hell is that about?
Undeniably, of course, the animation is first rate which is what you would expect from Disney and the storytelling set to the music is very clever. On the flip side though, the celebrity links in between the animated pieces range from good to awful and it feels a little bit of a badly put together jigsaw at times. It's kind of like a film that you might expect to find playing for your amusement while you spend two hours queueing up for a ride at the Magic Kingdom.
Good in parts, not so great in others, Fantasia 2000 is a nice piece of work which will appeal to some more than others.
