Review of Fantasia 2000 (2000) by Dean W — 17 Dec 2010
Well how do you do a sequel to arguably the greatest cinematic experiment in the history of not only animation but movie making itself??? You play it safe by using safe if a little bland vignettes. Nature friendly (Walt would have loved that) and kid friendly (Walt had a dark side to his early works that made them that much more that kiddie fare).
Lighter than the original, and not breaking any new ground,as the original broke a lot of rules and limitations which seem to have crept up (as in showing of breasts, violence) in animated movies.
That said it still is a marvel of animation, and the digital age has reared its perfect head, for a less artsy but equally compelling joy ride.
