Review of Fantasia 2000 (2000) by Alex B — 28 Dec 2010
Fantasia 2000 showcases some beautiful animation (though the unapologetic mixing of poor-quality computer animation with the wonderful hand-drawn images is frustrating at best), and a few of its sequences include some truly wonderful moments (Pines of Rome, Rhapsody in Blue, and the Firebird are my personal favorites).
However, while the original might be overly long in some places, this film suffers from far too much editing. Sequences that have the potential to grow into delightful and beautiful pieces of animation are cut short, along with new cuts of classical music icons that prevent the finished product from flourishing.
This is a solidly good movie, but falls very short of the soaring artistic heights reached and created by the original.
