Review of Fantasia 2000 (2000) by Daniel K — 19 Jan 2012
4: The only real problem I have with it the length: 68 minutes or thereabouts? Ridiculous. Unlike in the original Fantasia film this one ends with quite a bang though. The number with the stag, the volcano, and mother earth/the spring sprite/whatever is absolutely beautiful and terribly thrilling.
It is perhaps my second favorite between the two films after the Pastoral Symphony. The number with Donald Duck is incredibly hilarious as well. I can't remember the last time I laughed so often and so frequently, even when it comes to Buster Keaton or Charlie Chaplin masterpieces.
They go on longer, but the amount of slapstick comedy that is packed into the Donald Duck Noah's Ark number is ridiculous. The scene with all the little bird like creatures fluttering about in the light and dark is wonderful as well.
Basically, just about every scene in each of the films is wonderful. The various celebrity introductions are a nice update of the classic versions in the original films as well. I really wish Disney would make one of these ever year or every few years.
I'm fairly certain I would see them all.
