Review of Fantasia (1940) by Curtis H — 09 Jan 2012
Being a collection of sequences set to orchestral music, the greatest assets of this movie are also its largest stumbling blocks. Most sequences throughout "Fantasia" are inventive and unique, but it can get tiresome navigating its variety of animated styles and musical selections for a two hour period.
Still, if judged as the sum of its parts, "Fantasia" is glorious. From the delightfully classic "Sorcerer's Apprentice" to the deliciously sinister "Night on Bald Mountain," there's something great in every sequence, save for the over-long "Dance of the Hours.
