Which is better? The "little world" of theatre, music, dancing, family, love, and sex? Or the "big world" of religion, life and death, ethics, law, God? Bergman gives both their due, but emotionally, it's clear that he gives the prize to the little world.
As children, Fanny and Alexander would agree.
