Review of Fanny and Alexander (1982) by Matt H — 27 Aug 2014
Great movie, really shows the warmth of the family at the beginning (reminds me of The Deer Hunter's wedding, but a better sequence), and the contrast in the second half - the audience is able to feel a sense of the loss the children (and mother) are feeling due to the vibrant opening.
The priest guy is a great villain because he thinks he's doing the right and good thing, really interesting. I watched the shorter theatrical version, and I'm getting the feeling that was a mistake and that I should have started with the longer TV version.
I'll perhaps give it another try once some time has passed.
