Review of Fanboys (2009) by Liam K — 10 Mar 2010
Star Wars has been part of Americana ever since it exploded onto cinema screens in 1977. As time has gone by, nerdom has been expanded into an almost devious and creepy obsession from 30 year olds who are still virgins. This film beckons these "fanboys" to watch the exploits of four Star Wars geeks that could praticaly cum in their pants if they got to shake hands with George Lucas.
Eric played by Superman Returns' Sam Hutington, is the man who used to be the nerd. He's somewhat detached herself from his old group of childhood friends, though his poor manerisims prove otherwise. As a car salesman for his father, he doesn't seem to really have anything going for him. Linus (Chris Marquette), Hutch (Dan Folger) and Windows (Jay Baruchel) still do what they do best. Trivia about lines and quotes from the saga seem to be inprinted in their brains. All four of them unexpectidly reunite at a Halloween party in 1999. Linus wants to take a legendary road trip to George Lucas' film company on Skywalker Ranch to steal an unedited copy of the new Episode I film.
Comedy plays a small and almost unexisting role in this film, which from a fellow fanboy, disapoints me. Though the great cameos from the Star Wars alumini like Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams and Ray Park. It's always nice to see famous lines being redelivered in different context. But even the small puns can't make up for the lack of any funny jokes. One good role I can comment on is Seth Rogen. Known for Knocked Up and Pinapple Express, he plays two roles; one as an ugly, demented Trekkie sent on destroying the fanboys and as a pimp bearing Star Wars tatoos and wearing a wife beater. This film is in a galaxy far, far away from being anything close to good.
