Review of Fanboys (2009) by Andy D — 29 Dec 2010
I have absolutely no shame in admitting that I thought this movie was hilarious. Yes, we all grew up with Star Wars, and also yes, you do kinda have to know the original films pretty darn well to get most of the gags in this movie, but that aside I think this still works as a comedy road-movie.
The film takes the piss out of fanboys everywhere, but is also a love letter to all things Lucas, or Lucasian, or however you say it...
Lots of great SW references and gags throughout (I loved the constant use of SW sound-effects) and for me, Seth Rogen completely steals the show. Watching him have a fight with himself because "No one calls Han Solo a bitch" had me physically laughing out loud, as did my favourite line in the movie "Captain Jean Luc Picard is not gay, he's British".
The reason I havent given this a slightly higher rating is because it really cant work for everyone, so its not really very accessable, but that said, I loved it, and you will too if you know Star Wars even remotely.
The bottom line is that we are all geeks about something, and theres nothing wrong with that at all, so just revel in it!!
