Review of Family Plot (1976) by James S — 16 Mar 2009
Hitchcock's directorial swan song may not be amongst his best work but it still makes a for a decent enough final offering.
An intricate plot involving a couple of scheming con artists trying to find a man who doesn't want to be found keeps the audience guessing throughout and builds to a tense climax, albeit one which you hope may take a turn for the macabre but ends up feeling a little like an old episode of Bewitched.
There are no classic Hitchcock characters or moments here, in fact the runaway car scene is laughable even by 1976 standards.
But the film, at it's core, is an engaging mystery, even if it feels a little more Scooby Doo than Psycho.
