Review of Family Plot (1976) by Max M — 13 Dec 2009
Director Alfred Hitchcock's 52nd and final film (scripted by Ernest Lehman, who also wrote North by Northwest) about a phony psychic played by Barbara Harris and her cab-driver boyfriend played by Bruce Dern, who are hired by a wealthy aged woman to track down her long-lost nephew (William Devane) in order for him to inherit the family estate, is light and enjoyable, if not watered-down.
There might have been a better way for the master of suspense to cap off his career, but Hitchcock managed to not only infuse the picture with the consummate directorial flourishes that he came to be known for but also his black sense of humor.
