Review of Family Guy Presents: It's a Trap! (2010) by Ben H — 01 Jan 2011
What happened to Family Guy? I've gone through such a weird and up-and-down journey with this show: first I hated it for it's shameless rip-off of The Simpsons, then - for a few seasons - I loved it, and now I've gone back to hating it again (okay, maybe hate is to exaggerate, but that's just how it makes me feel sometimes).
It's suffered such a bad decline recently that I've stopped watching the show altogether. I gave it one last chance with this movie, as the first one was great and the second pretty good...but this? I don't know what this was, but it's got to rank as the unfunniest Star Wars spoof ever.
A lot of meaningless and dragged out sketches, just filling up the time in what is evidently the work of a lazy and resigned writing staff. It's one thing that he stole stuff from The Simpsons - that, I can overcome - but for sinking this low on the humor scale, Seth McFarlane ought to be ashamed.
So why am I still giving it 3 out of 5 stars? Well, even if most of the jokes downright suck, it did have a few that were quite amusing. The amped-up animation is another plus, and John Williams' original music themes are always a joy to listen to.
That being said, it's all right on the whole. But it definitely didn't make me wanna go back to watching the show again.
