Review of Fame (2009) by John W — 11 Jun 2007
The first of the 1980s "dance flicks". This story is actually much better then later efforts to top this film, with several stories intertwining into a fabric of people attending a shcool for the arts in Manhattan.
The film is good, the acting is good, and direction is top-notch (what else could you expect from Alan Parker?). The only flaws could be: 1) the story does seem slow at some points; and 2) the music seems extremely dated, with disco-electronic-beats being used in most of the songs, even the memorable and unforgettable title track, "Fame!" (I'm gonna live forever/I'm gonna learn how to fly").
A definite must-see for the film afficiendo.
