Review of Fame (2009) by Brittany M — 12 Jun 2009
I don't know if I would categorize this film as a musical. Sure, there were musical numbers (I think about 3), but they didn't really advance the plot, as the songs should in the genre. Yet, I adored Irene Cara's "Out Here On My Own.
" There also wasn't even a steady storyline. From the basic premise of students studying in a performing arts high school, we simply see how each year is different, but a challenge in some way.
Plus, there were many loose ends after the final number. Despite it all, I still loved the film. It was just real. No glitz or glamour, no reassurance that they'll all make it. Just honest in showing the high price of wanting "fame" and how it takes more than talent to succeed.
