I have been meaning to watch this again, to see if my memory was correct about the movie. This is totally unlike the TV show. The original movie is about the dark side of ambition and the struggle to succeed as a performing artist.
It isn't a cheerful movie.. it's dark and edgy. The performances are great, and after watching it, the TV show and remake are just shallow crappy shells.
