Review of Fame (2009) by P. P — 15 Jul 2012
What can I say? This is a guilty pleasure though I could certainly do without the silly production numbers that disrupt the otherwise realistic tone of the movie. Also, all the actors who are supposed to be high school students look at least 25 years old.
Nonetheless, this has a certain retro charm and there is authenticity in the way they explore the difficulties/challenges of choosing a creative path in life. This part of the story is unflinching. The intended audience is teens and twenty somethings and I think they'd greatly enjoy this movie.
Fame shows the travails and triumphs of growing up and figuring out who you are. I think this is part of the enduring appeal whatever the flaws. In any event it is far better than the spin off TV show that followed.
