The opening sequence does a frighteningly good job of creating the angst that we've all felt when stuck in traffic on a hot day. What follows failed to impress me. Instead of the great display of character development that I expected, Falling Down presents several loosely-related vignettes of violent acts which are only tied together by Douglas' character committing them.

Not even the expert acting of Duvall and Douglas could save this weak script which tries to create a social commentary on poverty and commercialism, but instead offers an uninteresting plot without much satisfaction in the end.
