Review of Falling Down (1993) by Don S — 16 Jul 2011
Douglas does a fantastic job portraying a person with mental health issues in a world that is very relevant today, even though the movie is 15+ years old. Duvall's role, though he gets second billing, is more like a bit part - his character has nothing to do, mostly because no one will listen to him, until nearly the end of the movie. (And I wouldn't call him an "overzealous cop" as the summary does.) The storyline could be taken out of today's headlines; though it is a good movie, I just can't say I enjoyed watching Bill Foster's diminishing ability to distinguish between right and wrong, leading to the inevitable end. Not a movie I plan to watch again, but worth watching if you haven't seen it.
