Review of Falling Down (1993) by William M — 22 Jan 2012
I know this one is a bit of a fan favorite. It's most because people say they can relate to it. D-Fens is supposed to just be an ordinary man who had a bad day. However, he is clearly not an ordinary man.
There's no way you can justify anything he did in the movie. There was something mentally wrong with him, and it is clear that he had a problem even before all his trouble: getting laid off and divorced.
Don't get me wrong. I'm usually a fan of vigilante movies. I'm not one of the prudes against vigilantes, but this isn't a vigilante movie. This man is going along without much rhyme and reason, committing crimes while making up rules for society.
Most people wants to root for the guy, especially by the white middle class who face similar white people problems. I really related to the scene in the Whammy Burger scene, because I hate the whole lunch/breakfast thing.
Why can't they just serve both all day? I want my goddamn chicken nuggets in the morning! My other problems with the movie are two particular characters: Prendergast's wife and Sandra's partner.
They were really annoying and didn't seem to add much to the movie. In conclusion, I kind of liked the movie.
