Review of Falling Down (1993) by Sma A — 24 Aug 2012
Falling Down is an interesting mix of intense character study, pop-culture and political satire, and feel-good musings for misanthropes. The result is a fantastically entertaining film that is intricate enough that it's fun to dissect and reflect on its complexities but isn't overly preachy that you feel bludgeoned by it's hammered-in message.
The writing is so fluid and broad that it can be interpreted as being convoluted or ambiguously inconsistent and frustrating but it's easier to see its ambiguity as mesmerizing and thought-provoking.
Oh, and Michael Douglas is menacingly brilliant.
