Review of Falling Down (1993) by Luke N — 03 Aug 2010
The emphasis upon the corruption encountered by our 'Angry white male' protagonist is a little hyperbolic at times as the director tries to force-feed his message to the audience -that the whole world is out to get you-with overpriced cans of coca cola and road workers who aren't working etc.
.. But the river runs deeper than that, Douglas' character has many facets, whether it be the father kept from his child or the recently made redundant defence worker, D-fens is the personification of the ordinary man's disillusionment with society, because of this, we as an audience don't view him as a good guy or a bad guy, we just accompany him as he tries painstakingly to get through the day.
