Review of Falling Down (1993) by John O — 12 Nov 2009
A masterclass from Douglas as the (seemingly) ordinary working man who snaps and unleashes a trail of violence across LA as he lashes out at what he perceives to be the injustices against the law-abiding citizen.
A gripping film from start to finish, with a story that fleshes out constantly as more details about D-FENS are revealed. Robert Duvall is on fine form as the aging cop who becomes determined to track him down.
The only flaw is that the film is perhaps a tad too long, and yet despite this I would have liked to have seen more time devoted to the relationship between Duvall and his former partner who assists him with the investigation.
Still an essential film.
