Review of Fallen (1998) by Dave M — 28 Jan 2009
I watched this movie based on a singular recommendation I received many years ago. Little did I know that it was actually a Denzel Washington compilation movie, before a lot of his career had even taken place.
This takes the most common parts of his most common movies and staples them together. Had I seen this ten years ago, I might not have felt the same way, but it seems excessively... basic, for lack of better phrasing.
Amongst the numerous but minor problems are - a lot of the moves are telegraphed, the music is good but misplaced, and the movie gets a little caught up in itself at times. This sounds like a pretty negative review, but it isn't.
I may not have liked the ending, but it was still exceptional, in a very clever and non-showboating sort of way. And the train I took to get to that ending wasn't all that bumpy. So count it as a positive review with a whole bunch of asterisks, I guess.
Thanks, kid - your turn to watch Se7en.
