Review of Fallen (1998) by Megan W — 11 Mar 2009
I liked this movie - I think it was probably cooler in 1998. It actually sort of dated itself with the predator-like "DEMON-VISION". Demons don't see in infra-red it turns out... but they sure do have some sort of tunnel-vision type thing going on with a slight over-saturation of color it turns out.
And demons drive Buicks primarly... and like cereal.
I found out a lot about demons in this movie... including the fact that being alive 2000 years doesn't mean they can carry a tune. You'd think that much time on the planet that they'd learn to be fabulous singers... but it turns out they're really off key.
Anyway... I didn't take many issues with the movie - it was pretty clever. Some of the dialogue might as well have had a subtitle running underneath it "This dialogue provided to give you context clues about a back story we don't have time to flesh out but this should give you the general idea... sorry for the convenience...".
I think it could have been creepier with a different director... the slow-mo, the demon-vision, and the weird panning of the camera was I guess stylistic for 1998 though, so maybe in twenty years people will watch this and be like OH I LOVE THOSE VINTAGE 90's HORROR MOVIES!
