Review of Fair Game (2010) by Ken T — 20 Aug 2011
Not to be confused with the 1995 Cindy Crawford flick of the same name, Liman's film gives the viewer a behind the scenes take on just how rotten the Bush administration was. Naomi Watts plays the real-life CIA agent who has and is currently working undercover in various places in the world returning home to her husband, former Ambassador Joe Wilson(Sean Penn) and her children.
Penn's Joe Wilson is aware of his wife's activities and he himself does the occasional job for the CIA. When Joe Wilson find no indication that uranium is being sold to Iraq for the manufacture of WMDs despite what Bush's party are saying, he decides to do something about it with significant consequences.
The first hour of this film is quite riveting. Unfortunately the second act does up the ante on preachiness. Nevertheless, Watts and Penn give impressive performances and Liman is very adept at handling the material.
Democrats, Liberals and Left-wingers will eat this up... Republicans, Libertarians, Fox News faithful and other right wingers will likely condemn this. Nevertheless, Fair Game does not fail in making a very valid point.
