Review of Failure to Launch (2006) by Jessica N — 20 Nov 2008
Fairly standard and predictable rom/com fare following in the formulaic footsteps of The Wedding Planner and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. At least McConaughey had better chemistry here than he did with Kate Hudson in the disastrous Fool's Gold that would follow this film 2 years later (and next year we'll be graced with The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past).
Though the rippling physique of McConaughey is unavoidable, I found the show almost stolen by the quirky Zooey Deschanel / Justin Bartha sub-romance (which I think is instantly more identifiable for most audience members than the leads). And the most touching moment came from the always impeccable Kathy Bates (yet I suppose it is a shame to see such talent placed in a comedic supporting role).
Exactly what one would expect from former TV sitcom writers. Enjoyable but unremarkable and easily forgettable.
P.S. Does ANYONE really like Sarah Jessica Parker?
